In The Summer of '57, Sam Lawmaker leaves home for the first time to live and work in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Sam's job in the United States Forest Service includes surveying and fire fighting. These activities, and his penchant for danger, find him many adventures and brushes with death. He meets many colorful characters including a long lost Indian friend with an adventurous cowboy life. In the fall, Sam leaves for college where his adventures continue.

Biography
A third generation native of California, grunion is a retired electronic engineer who still lives in that state. His interests are wide-ranging: music and playing guitar, reading, writing, painting and drawing, jogging, hiking, swimming and surfing, over-the-line, camping, and sports. The Summer of '57 was inspired by his own experiences and those of several of his acquaintance.
